Committee

The boat club is governed by a committee consisting of student representatives and an overseeing Senior Member (currently Douglas Dupree). All are unelected, or elected by the previous committee, and volunteer their time to the club. Here they are:

President - Edward Jacobs
"The buck stops here." Having spent last year as men's captain and getting the Spring 2nds Regatta off the ground, as President I'm on hand to help out Nick, Graham, Sophie and Tom (as well as the rest of the committee) in their hard work throughout the year. As is the case with most members of the club, I started rowing here at Balliol, and my technique has since been complimented as "not terrible" by crewmates and coaches. From September I will be trialling to compete in the 2011 Boat Race in March; if I don't make Isis I'll be coming back in Hilary in our challenge for the Torpids headship!
Men's Captain - Nick Parkinson
Women's Captain - Sophie Avery
I suppose one could say I am fast becoming a true boatie – having never rowed before coming to Oxford, and having not done an awful lot else since being in Oxford! Despite ‘deciding’ to quit rowing before the start of each term so far, it really is true that the second you are back in a boat, you are hooked. Rowing isn’t just a sport – it’s a lifestyle; who doesn’t love lycra, lots of chocolate, and laughing at the pain?! For the first time in History, we have an awesome task on our hands – to retain Headship. BCBC’s motto is ‘We Lead Others Follow’. All I can say is that Beth has led, I am hoping to follow!
Treasurer - Aime Lopez Aguilar
I started rowing in high school, back at home in Mexico City, about 10 years ago. I continued rowing with the varsity team at Brock University in Canada for two years, and then joined the St. Catharine's Rowing Club during the summers. I managed to quit for the last two years of my undergrad in order to save my degree by slaving away in lab. As soon as I got to Oxford I signed up with BCWBC, and have rowed with W1 ever since :) Now apparently I'm supposed to oversee the finances of BCBC to keep the club running smoothly.
Women's Vice Captain - Hannah Robertson
I started coxing when I joined Balliol in 2009 and due to my ridiculous ability to never stop talking (complete rubbish according to W2 last year!) I somehow made it to vice-captain. Even though I may have made a very small hole in a boat this year and only managed to compete in my first race in Summer Eights, I am completely hooked on rowing and look forward to helping Sophie throughout the year in defending the headship!
Web Officer - Chris Wright
I have been at Balliol for 7 years and am currently a D.Phil. student. I have rowed in the 1st VIII for the last six years and was proud to be part of the 2008 Headship crew. My main duty as Web Officer is to maintain the website, helping to keep everyone up to date with the activities of the boat club.
Social Secretary - Juliette Kelly
Position - Admin
I am the Admin of the whole of bcbc.co.uk. If anything goes wrong on the website or you want any information at all regarding the Boat Club please send me a message or email me at admin@bcbc.co.uk
Social Secretary - Jonathan Scott
Captain of Coxes - John Lees
I started coxing from when I started at Balliol in 2009, and have quickly sped up the ranks from Greene crew through M3 and M2 to captain of coxes (because there is no-one else to do it that hasn't put a huge hole in a boat). BANTER
